Scorpio 38 telescopic crane

The longest telescopic crane in the fleet: 38 ft, roughly 11.6 metres of arm with a Scorpio remote head.

A telescopic crane from the Scorpio family, the European reference in film cranes. The telescoping arm lets you correct reach mid-move, so the base does not have to be repositioned between takes. Supplied with Scorpio head, counterweights, wheeled base and a crane grip.

Everything you need to know before you get to the location

Open only what you need: rigging, site requirements, what the service includes, and manufacturer specifications with their source.

Rigging and timingsoperations
Rigging

90 to 120 minutes with three crew, ballast included. The crane arrives disassembled and the counterweight is 723 kg that has to be carried or pallet-trucked to the base, so vehicle access to the build point drives the timing more than the crane itself does.

Site requirementsbefore confirming
Requirements

Firm, level ground. At 1,316 kg empty plus 723 kg of counterweight, floor loading must be verified before taking it above ground level. A dedicated 220 V/16 A supply. Full swing clearance for the rear arm: 2.42 m behind the pivot, which is the most commonly missed measurement.

What the service includes
Included

Crane, Scorpio Stabilized Head, counterweights, wheeled or track base, and a crane grip. Transport is quoted separately by location.

When to choose this kit
Criteria

When the shot has to clear a roofline, a treetop or a crowd. Below about 8 metres of working height the 30+7 does the same job with half the logistics and costs less: we do not charge for a 38 to deliver a 25 ft move.

Worth knowing. These are Servicevision’s figures for the bare crane. Mounted on an ECS base, Chapman/Leonard publish different numbers (up to 13.5 m lens height) because they include the base. When we quote, we always state which base it runs on.
